Enjoy an At-Home Facial!

Chances are, you are long overdue for a well-deserved spa day, but who has the funds to spend upwards of $100 for one hour of relaxation and rejuvenation? Likely you need that money to pay some bills, fix the leaky dishwasher, or just tuck away into savings. Still, we happen to think you deserve a little pampering, and you might be surprised to find out you can find the ingredients right in your kitchen—or your closest supermarket. So put in movie for the kids, and treat yourself to a DIY facial.

Facial Scrub

Heavy Cream Mask:
Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with one teaspoon of heavy cream, until it acquires the consistency of men’s shaving foam. Then add a tablespoon of honey and mix well. Smooth onto your face and leave for 20 minutes. The fatty acids and minerals in the mask will leave your skin feeling very smooth.

Sugar Scrub:
Stir two tablespoons of sugar into three tablespoons of warm water. Make sure the sugar granules are completely dissolved, then apply to your face and massage gently. Rinse with warm water, or with a steamed washcloth (you can do this by wetting a washcloth and microwaving it for a few seconds). Since sugar acts as an exfoliant, this mask will help clear clogged pours and slough away dead skin, leaving your face fresh and anew.

Facial Mask

Egg White and Yogurt Mask:
Separate the egg whites from two eggs and place them in a bowl. Add two tablespoons of plain yogurt and mix well. Apply to face and leave on for a few minutes, then rinse face in warm water followed by a warm washcloth. The simple ingredients act as a natural moisturizer, which helps combat wrinkles.

Banana Mask:
Mix one ripe banana with 1 tablespoon of honey. Add a few drops of juice from a lemon or orange. Mix well and apply to face for 15 minutes, then wipe off with a cool washcloth. Bananas help fill the skin with vitamins that improve your complexion and smooth fine wrinkles, and they work especially well with oily skin.

Avocado Mask:
Mash up one half of a fresh, ripe, organic avocado. Then stir in about a quarter cup of honey, and apply to the skin. Leave on for 10 minutes, and rinse with cool water or a cool washcloth. This classic mask is great for dry or mature skin, as avocado is full of moisturizing oils and vitamin E. Combined with the honey, it’s an easy way to boost the overall appearance of your skin.
